Strengthening families to care for children
and caring for children when families cannot.

Philosophy
We believe that God clearly calls us to care for the most needy and vulnerable members of our society. Specifically, we recognize God’s heart for children as their Father. As God’s people, we have a responsibility to care for these ‘little ones’. Perhaps you have never considered becoming a foster parent. There are many valid reasons not to undertake such a commitment, which we understand. Yet, despite your practical concerns and fears, do you sense God asking you to consider foster parenting or to find out more? As He shows us time and time again, sometimes the greatest challenges, those we thought simply too difficult, become the most rewarding experiences of our lives. Think about it. Pray about it. Then contact us for more information.

What is Foster Care?
Foster care is the temporary placement of children outside of their own homes. It occurs because of abuse, neglect, or other family problems. When possible, LYDIA Foster Care staff works with families to reunite them. Placing a child in a foster family home is not intended as a permanent living arrangement but to protect the child with the ultimate goal of returning the child home. When that's not possible, measures are taken to get the children adopted - or prepared for independent life.

Types of Foster Parenting
Respite Foster Care
Temporary care for children to relieve other foster parents during emergencies, vacation, or other circumstances for a few days or weeks.

Traditional Foster Care

Care for children birth to 18 who have issues resulting from child abuse or neglect.

Specialized Foster Care

Care for children who have significant behavioral or emotional issues that require care and time far above the average foster child of the same age. The foster family must possess additional skills to meet the individual needs of the child. Foster parents who either already have necessary skills, or are willing to be trained to meet the special needs of these foster children, may become part of a "specialized" or "treatment" foster care program providing intensive services.
